Origin: Austria - Wachau | Variety: Riesling | Producer: Domäne Wachau
Domäne Wachau is one of Austria’s most renowned wineries, based in Austria’s most prestigious wine growing region, the Wachau. Steep terraced yineyards, a cool, marginal climate and meagre primary rock soils define the wines. „Smaragd “ stands for complex, full-bodied wines of the Wachau with aging potential.
The grapes for the „Weissenkirchen“-wines (one of Domäne Wachau‘s „village“-bottlings) are sourced from vineyards surrounding the „commune“ of Weissenkirchen. This „commune“ includes, besides Weissenkirchen itself, the Wachau villages of Joching, Wösendorf and St. Michael. The wines display the uniquely elegant and mineral style that is typical for this part of the Wachau. Vineyards include premium sites such as Achleiten, Klaus, Kollmütz and Weitenberg.
Brilliant greenish yellow colour, good viscosity. Distinguished and open on the nose. The crystal clear aromas of fresh apricot and yellow plum are backened by some smoky notes. The bright acidity perfectly balances the full body. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. A noble wine with aging potential!
How to enjoy best
Serve well-chilled at 10°C – directly from the fridge. The wine perfectly accompanies a wide range of fish dishes, lobster and seafood as well as Cordon Bleu, fried chicken and other poultry dishes. Drink young to enjoy the intriguing fruit aromas or age for 4-6 years for complex, multilayered aromatics.
