One of Austria’s leading magazines for culinary lifestyle & travel also publishes the country’s most important annual wine guide.
Peter Moser is chief editor at Falstaff magazine and has headed its wine department since 1997. He tastes and assesses thousands of wines each year for the annual "Falstaff Weinguide". This book is translated into several languages and is the essential tool to which international professionals and connoisseurs refer when making serious purchasing decisions for fine Austrian wines.
In the 2014 guide, five of our single vineyard Smaragd wines from the freshly bottled 2013 vintage were awarded the outstanding score of 92-94 points. A score with a range of points refers to a wine that is expected to continue to develop advantageously. As has come to be expected, the Rieslings from the Achleiten, Kellerberg and Singerriedel vineyards and the Achleiten Grüner Veltliner were the cream of the crop. This year the Axpoint Grüner Veltliner Smaragd 2013 proudly stands side-by-side with the four veteran champions.
The Axpoint vineyard is located in the cooler, western end of the Wachau at the foot of Singerriedel. Weathered and eroded primary rock has been deposited here over the years and is now covered by deep, argillaceous topsoil. The Axpoint Grüner Veltliner combines the juicy elegance derived from the cool marginal climate in this part of Wachau with the concentrated structure and full body the rich topsoil delivers.
