Wachau Panorama
2016 | Gemischter Satz Smaragd Ried Vorderseiber

Origin: Austria - Wachau | Variety: Gemischter Satz | Producer: Domäne Wachau

Domäne Wachau is one of Austria’s most renowned wineries, based in Austria’s most prestigious wine growing region, the Wachau. Steep terraced vineyards, a cool, marginal climate and meagre primary rock soils define the wines. „Smaragd“ stands for complex, full-bodied wines of the Wachau with aging potential.

Gemischter Satz Vorderseiber
This Gemischter Satz (field blend) from the vineyard Vorderseiber comes from a very old vineyard with 80 year old vines, mainly Grüner Veltliner as well as Riesling, Neuburger, Sauvignon Blanc, Brauner Veltliner, Heunisch, Roter Veltliner, Pinot Gris, Rivaner, Gelber Muskateller, Muskat Ottonel, Traminer and other varieties. The Seiber vineyard in Weissenkirchen reaches the highest altitude of all vineyards in the Wachau. Cool climate and gneiss rock set this site apart and makes this terroir unique.

Tasting Note
Brilliant, bright green-yellow. Yellow apple, quince, white peach with intense smoky notes and delicate hints of mango and pineapple. Powerful on the palate with a spicy backbone, convincing with mineral character, juicy fruit, crisp acidity, and a long lingering finish.

How to enjoy best
Serve well chilled at about 9° C. Perfect with traditional Austrian dishes like “Tafelspitz” (beef pot roast), but also pairs well with Asian dishes. Drink now or age for 5-8 years.
