We are certified “Sustainable Austria”

The Domäne Wachau has recently been awarded with the “Sustainable Austria” quality seal of approval.

Ecology, economy and social issues are the central pillars in the certification process for "Sustainable Austria". Among other things, this means no use of insecticides in the vineyard, consciously and sparingly managing the available quantities of water, using machines efficiently and increasing biodiversity. In addition, it is also about the promotion of regional traditions, the reduction of the carbon footprint and energy consumption, a responsible management and fair framework.

Of the approximately 80 Austrian wineries, we are until now the largest to have been awarded the seal of approval. The certificate stands for the high quality of a wine but goes beyond the individual product and focuses on the overall performance of a winery. In our case, the focus is primarily on the 250 growing families, who have been taking environmentally friendly and biodiversity-promoting measures in their vineyards for years in order to provide the vines with a balanced environment.

With the certification of our 450 hectares of vineyards, one third of the Wachau vineyards was classified as sustainable from one day to the next. The Wachau has taken on a pioneering role and has the highest percentage of certified areas in Austria.

We can only get better and better if our soils and vines are in an ecological balance, if we are economically rational and our growing families and employees feel good.
