Great tasting scores from International Wine Authorities

We are thrilled to announce the latest international ratings from Robert Parkers Wine Advocate, Jancis Robinson, the Wine Enthusiast and the Wine & Spirits Magazine.

Recently a portfolio tasting of Austrian wines in London was held and Master of Wine Jancis Robinson, a self-confessed Riesling fan, awarded amazing 17 points to the 2017 Riesling Ried Achleiten Smaragd. The 2017 Grüner Veltliner Ried Kellerberg Smaragd from the eastern end of the Wachau Valley got 16.5 points and was described as being “refreshing with good fruit, mineral quality” by Jancis Robinson.

Robert Parkers Wine Advocate recently published a resume of a Wachau tasting, with wines going back to 1973. The highlights are a 94-point rating for the 2017 Riesling Smaragd Ried Singerriedel (“super precise, salty and fresh, Riesling of great elegance”), and 93 points for the 2017 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Ried Kellerberg ("ripe and generous fruit intermixed with flinty aromas"). The mature offerings from 2001, 1996 and 1977 were given 93, 92 and 90 points respectively, and the 1973 Grüner Veltliner Auslese Ried Achleiten from the cellar archive was awarded a rating of great 92 points due to its “bouquet of ripe and honeyed stone fruits, elegant, refined, absolutely delicious wine with a longing salinity.”

The Wine Enthusiast published an outstanding 96/100 rating for the 2017 Riesling Smaragd Ried Achleiten and 95 points for its Grüner Veltliner counterpart. The 2017 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Ried Kellerberg was given 95 points similarly for being “utterly moreish and very refreshing.”

The April 2019 edition of Wine & Spirits Magazine favoured the 2016 vintage of our Riesling Ried Achleiten Smaragd with 94 points and gave our food-friendly Federspiel wines 91/100 for the 2017 Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Ried Liebenberg and 90/100 for the 2017 Riesling Federspiel Terrassen.
