Wachau Panorama
2016 | Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Ried Kirnberg

Origin: Austria - Wachau | Variety: Grüner Veltliner | Producer: Domäne Wachau

Domäne Wachau is one of Austria’s most renowned wineries, based in Austria’s most prestigious wine growing region, the Wachau. Steep terraced vineyards, a cool, marginal climate and meagre primary rock soils define the wines. „Smaragd“ stands for complex, full-bodied wines of the Wachau with aging potential.

Ried Kirnberg
Kirnberg, originally named “Churnperig” in 1451, is located in the western part of Rossatz on the southern bank of the Danube. Set atop a rather a high plateau, the eastern facing vineyard is characterized by massive rocks and paragneiss. The wines from Kirnberg are very elegant with delicate spices and great minerality.

Tasting Note
This wine is medium yellow-green. On the nose, it is open and approachable yet subtle and playful with aromas of yellow apple, pears, grapefruit and fine tobacco spices. The palate is juicy, lively and smooth, well balanced with a refreshing acidity, great minerality, and a long-lasting finish with fine spices and a pronounced minerality.

How to enjoy best
Serve well chilled directly from the fridge. The wine perfectly accompanies a variety of fish dishes, deep-fried dishes, the traditional Austrian “Tafelspitz“ (beef pot roast). Already very approachable, drink now or age for 3-5 years.
