Wachau Panorama
2015 | Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Kellerberg

Origin: Austria - Wachau | Variety: Grüner Veltliner | Producer: Domäne Wachau

Domäne Wachau is one of Austria’s most renowned wineries, based in Austria’s most prestigious wine growing region, the Wachau. Steep terraced vineyards, a cool, marginal climate and meagre primary rock soils define the wines. „Smaragd“ stands for complex, full-bodied wines of the Wachau with aging potential.

The Kellerberg is Dürnstein’s steep landmark mountain, rising up right behind the Kellerschlössel (Domäne Wachau’s baroque cellar castle). The vines root deeply into the light-coloured „Gföhler Gneiss“ which consists mainly of feldspar and quarz covered by sandy loess soil in some parts of Kellerberg. The strong Pannonian climate influence on the Kellerberg yields full-bodied and complex, yet impressively mineral wines.

Tasting Note
Medium green yellow with golden reflections; open and expressive on the nose, dark and smoky spices, delicious stone fruit, white peach, some grapefruit and yellow apple; on the palate very distinctive, well structured; precise and powerful with an enjoyable crispy acidity; multilayered, long lasting with subtle spices and a salty minerality.

How to enjoy best
Serve well chilled at 10°C. The wine already offers drinking pleasure but also promises to age well for many years. Perfectly accompanies the traditional Austrian cuisine, roast goose and duck, fried meats, hearty fish dishes and spicy Thai Food.
