Wachau Panorama
2014 | Riesling Federspiel Loibenberg

Origin: Austria - Wachau | Variety: Riesling | Producer: Domäne Wachau

Domäne Wachau is one of Austria’s most renowned wineries, based in Austria’s most prestigious wine growing region, the Wachau. Steep terraced yineyards, a cool, marginal climate and meagre primary rock soils define the wines. „Federspiel“ stands for dry, medium bodied and elegantly balanced wines of the Wachau.

Entering the Wachau from the east, the Loibenberg is the first striking elevation of the valley and reaches an altitude of more than 420 metres above sea level. Loibenberg is the biggest single-vineyard of the Wachau, exactly south facing and strongly influenced by the warm Pannonian climate. It is therefore also called the „hotplate“ of the Wachau. The terroir is defined by weathered gneiss soils with layers of loess and loam in some areas as well as warm Pannonian air streams from the east.

Tasting Note
Bright straw yellow with delicate green reflections; concentrated and intense with pronounced aromas of stone fruit, peach, apricot, some mango, delicate exotic, smoky, mineral; substance and depth on the palate, the lively acidity adds brilliance and finesse; a wine with potential

How to enjoy best
We recommend serving more full bodied white wines, including this Riesling, at a somewhat higher temperature, i.e. 10°C. An ideal accompaniment to sophisticated dishes such as seafood, fish, the traditional Austrian dish “Tafelspitz” (beef pot roast) or roast duck and goose.
