Top 50 among the World’s Best Vineyards 2021

Domäne Wachau was the only Austrian estate to make the top 50 of the World’s Best Vineyards in 2021.

Why is it so special to be named one of the World’s Best Vineyards? For one thing, because the recognition stems from a truly international jury consisting of 600 people with distinct backgrounds, i.e. journalists, wine critics, tourism experts and wine enthusiasts. Their task is both unusual and enjoyable – to nominate estates you would be likely to recommend to your best friends.

The quality of the wines is a key factor, of course, with big names like Chateau Margaux, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Antinori, Quinta do Noval and Henschke among the top 50. Overall aspects also play a role, such as tourist attractions near the estate, knowledge and friendliness of the staff, quality and price, and the estate’s image and location. In short, anything and everything that makes it worthwhile to visit an estate.

Roman Horvath, our winery director, is more than happy: “All of the Wachau’s many facets go into our wines: the Danube with its steep terraces, where our vintners work the vineyards, mostly by hand and using organic methods, and the sense of common purpose at the estate.”
